Estimated Dollar Value of Volunteer Time Revised
Independent Sector (www.independentsector.org) is a forum for charitable organizations, foundations, and corporate giving programs. Each year they review Bureau of Labor statistics to estimate a dollar value for volunteer time. The newly-released national average for 2007 is $19.51 an hour. Their most recent available estimate for Oregon is 2006’s figure of $17.33 an hour.
These estimates represent the value of all hourly production and nonsupervisory earnings on non-farm payrolls, increased by 12% to allow for fringe benefits. Nonprofits may find the estimates provide a useful tool for describing the important role that volunteers play in supporting community organizations.
